Hierarchy Pyramid
Emperor: The role of the Emperor has changed overtime from being a
ruler of the country, to a military leader. The Emperor is a ceremonial
figurehead that is a symbol of the Japanese nation and unity to its people.
Shogun: The Shogun was a military governor in Japan during the Shogunate period. The Shoguns were the real rulers of their country but they were officially selected by the Emperor.
Daimyo: The Daimyo were powerful feudal lords who owned large amounts of land from the 10th to late 19th century in Japan.
Samurai: The Japanese Samurai were the warriors of the Shogun rulers during the medieval Japan
Ronin: The Ronin was a Samurai warrior without a master, lord, or Diamyo. The term Ronin refers to a wanderer or an outlaw, who has either renounced their lords or would have been expelled from their clan.
Peasants: The peasants were the majority of the Japanese people, that would tend the land and do the farming
Artisans: The Artisans were the craftsmen, as they would find materials and create fine weapons and armour
Merchants: At the bottom of the pyramid are the Merchants. They would sell the items the peasants and artisans make for a living.
